So cool that you still have the original VHS as well as the DVD dubs. I haven't worked on this project in some time. What I do have is just segments of the tape I copied onto my computer so I could post them on the Internet. Really would like to work on dubbing the rest of what I have this winter but working on a photography project right now and that is more important to me. Hopefully, I'll have some images to post onto my blog sometime in the next month.

By the way, I really like your Web site. Took some time to check out your work and I really think you have an important 'Gen-X' perspective. Have you ever thought of putting together a small, American documentary style photo book? You actually have a lot of work done with what you have on your site.

I'm about the same age as you are and was part of the underground music scene in Detroit for a bit and San Diego. Not so much punk but more Goth, Rave, Techno, Electro-Clash scenes. I definitely think these are under appreciated, understood, or represented in general mass culture. And when it is, it is to point out how fringe, unstable, and abnormal it all is with no appreciation for how important these movements have been for music and art as well as the general consciousness of our culture.

I have some tapes like this too. I have one tape from 1984 - classic MTV. I also have some 120 minutes and Head Bangers Ball. These tapes are cool to have. These music videos were a huge influence on me as a photographer. I also have some early skateboarding videos too - I think some of the contest ones put out by Vision Skateboards are probably very rare. The home tape I have of John Lucero skateboarding is pretty much one of a kind because me and a friend made it. Anyway, I've digitized most of my tapes to DVD. My grandmother kept my VHS tapes for me while I was traveling around the country and world doing my photography. Last year I was visiting her (she's almost 80 now) and she asked me if I wanted my old tapes - I was like YEAH!

If you ever want to trade DVDs let me know. I have some old newscasts from the 80s too and those are very strange to see now. I though TV stations kept copies of all that stuff but learned recently they don't even have tapes of their own in many cases.

Thanks Chris for the offer! But I don't have many of these old VHS tapes and just can't bear to risk loosing them in the mail. Most of the videos are on YouTube anyway.

I would happily digitize your old 120 Minutes/Post-Modern MTV VHS to DVD for free. I would love to see this stuff again.
